A few years ago I watched a friend land in Lagos for her first Detty December not knowing where to go, who to trust, or how she'd get home safely after midnight. She had the excitement of a homecoming and the money to spend — what she didn't have was a reliable way to find out what was actually happening, which hotel listing was real, which driver wouldn't overcharge her, or which areas to think twice about after dark.

She wasn't alone. Every December, hundreds of thousands of people — Nigerians coming home, first-time visitors, locals chasing the next big night — run into the same wall. Detty December had become one of the most exciting tourism moments in Africa, and the way people navigated it hadn't caught up. Everything lived in scattered WhatsApp groups, Instagram stories, and word of mouth. There was no single place anyone could fully trust.

That gap is where DropLocationNG® started.

THE GAPS WE SET OUT TO FILL

We looked closely at what kept going wrong, and it came down to a handful of things people ran into year after year. Event discovery was fragmented, with no trusted source pulling everything into one place. Accommodation came with no way to verify what was real — short-lets and hotels could be booked sight unseen, on faith alone. Transport and logistics were a guessing game, especially late at night, when getting home safely mattered most. Safety information existed, but only in forms too broad to be useful — a government advisory can't tell you which street is fine to walk down tonight. Crowds and venue capacity were invisible until you were already standing outside, turned away. And underneath all of it, nobody was building the bigger picture: who was going where, what worked, what didn't — not the organisers, not the hotels, not even the agencies trying to plan around an entire season of chaos.

We built DropLocationNG® to close those gaps, state by state.

WHY "DROP YOUR LOCATION"

The name comes from something every Nigerian has said at least once — drop your location — the casual, practical phrase that means someone is about to meet you, find you, or follow you somewhere. That's exactly the role we set out to play: the platform that tells you where to go, and makes sure wherever you land has already been checked out by someone you can trust.

We actually started under a different name. Early on, we discovered it was already claimed elsewhere, so we rebuilt the brand from the ground up — sharper name, sharper focus, same mission underneath. If anything, it made us more certain we were building something worth protecting properly.

VERIFICATION FIRST

Every listing on DropLocationNG® — every event, every hotel, every transport provider — goes through a human review before it ever reaches you. We are not a place where anyone can post anything. The Verified badge you see means a real person checked it. That's slower than letting anyone publish whatever they want, and we're fine with that. Trust is the entire product.

BEYOND DETTY DECEMBER

What started as a Lagos idea quickly outgrew Lagos. Abuja has its own scene entirely. Port Harcourt parties harder than almost anywhere in the country. Owerri turns into the unofficial capital of the South-East every December. Uyo, Ibadan, Enugu, Asaba, Warri, Abeokuta — each one has its own version of Detty December, its own venues, its own community coming home. We're building DropLocationNG to cover all of it: nine states today, and growing.

And Detty December is only the beginning. Nigeria doesn't stop celebrating in January. There's Easter across the South-West, Calabar Carnival running into the new year, Sallah celebrations across the North, the Eyo Festival in Lagos, New Yam festivals across the East, an owambe season that never really ends. Every one of those moments deserves the same thing Detty December visitors deserve: a trusted way to find out what's happening, where to stay, how to get there, and how to do it safely.

That's the platform we're building toward — not just a December app, but the place anyone turns to whenever Nigeria is celebrating.

THIS IS NOT JUST OUR PLATFORM

We didn't build this by guessing what people wanted, and we're not finished listening. If there's a feature you wish existed, a state we haven't covered well enough, or a problem you keep running into that we haven't solved yet — tell us.
