General Safety Tips for Lagos

Lagos is a vibrant, welcoming city — but like any major metropolis, it requires awareness and preparation. These tips are the kind of practical advice a trusted local friend would share. • Keep your phone in your pocket or bag when walking between venues. Phone snatching happens in crowded areas. • Do not flash expensive jewellery, watches, or large amounts of cash. • Save your hotel address and your host's phone number somewhere other than your phone — a physical note in your wallet works. • Share your live location with a trusted friend or family member when going to events at night. • If something feels wrong, trust your instincts and leave. There is always another event. • Keep a backup of your passport, visa, and travel documents in cloud storage or email. • Have at least two ways to pay: one card and some cash. Not all venues accept card payments, and ATMs can be unreliable during peak season. • Drink bottled water only. Carry a sealed bottle to events. • Download an offline map of Lagos before arrival — Google Maps works offline if you pre-load the area.
