Common Scams Targeting Detty December Visitors
Detty December attracts opportunists alongside genuine operators. Awareness is your best protection.
• Fake event tickets: Only buy from links on the official event page or DropLocationNG. Never buy from strangers on social media or outside venues.
• Fraudulent short-let listings: Fake listings using stolen photos are common. Verify properties exist by checking addresses and using DropLocationNG's verified directory.
• Transport overcharging: Always confirm pricing before travel. Check DropLocationNG's transport directory for approximate airport prices.
• Pre-payment scams: Never transfer the full amount for accommodation or transport to a personal bank account in advance. Legitimate businesses accept deposits and provide receipts.
• ATM fraud: Use ATMs inside bank branches only. Shield your PIN. If an ATM retains your card, stay and call your bank immediately.
• Currency exchange: Use official bureau de change offices only. Do not exchange money with individuals on the street.
• VIP and table scams: Some promoters sell access for events they have no connection to. Verify directly with the venue or organiser.
If you have been scammed: Report to the nearest police station. Keep all evidence — screenshots, receipts, transaction records. Contact your bank immediately if money was transferred.
